Sonya V. Alvarez always tries to have a smile on her face. “Your first expression says a lot,” she explains, and she wants hers to say something positive.

Her desire to help people originally led her to pursue a career in nursing. She earned three certifications: as a medical office specialist, as a medical assistant and as a phlebotomist. Then a friend approached her with a job opportunity as a receptionist at a Medicare Advantage enrollment center. At first, she wasn’t certain the position would be right for her, but she soon discovered it was a great way to make a difference in people’s lives.

Searching for opportunities for career growth, she came to PTT Financial. At first, she was hired as a part-time receptionist, but she was quickly promoted to her current position as Contracting Specialist.  Now she guides agents through the process of obtaining contracts and getting certified by carriers.  She also provides Medicare 101 presentations.

Although she now works more with agents than with clients, she’s happy knowing she’s still helping. In the future, she hopes to earn her insurance license.

Regardless of her job title, she will always go out of her way to help people, whether they need assistance with a form or simply a kind ear. She strives to act with compassion, and she encourages others to do the same.

Born and raised in Texas, Sonya enjoys baking, crafting and dancing. She has two adult children: a son who is going to college and a daughter who works at PTT with her. She is also a grandmother to seven-year-old Ella Jane. She and her husband are caring for a baby boy they hope to adopt.
